Tied up with Life

June 20, 2011 1 comment

I know many of you follow this blog and I appreciate your doing so. I wanted to let everyone know why for the past week I have not had anything but quotes going out. Well as the title indicates, I have been tied up with life.

Certain things in this life require our attention at times more than others. This past week I have been out of water due to having a well drilled deeper next to the one I already had. When the drillers got deeper than my well, my well went dry. So my main focus in life at the moment has been getting the new well finished so that I may have one of the basic necessities of life.

I do hope you have enjoyed the quotes that have gone out during this time. Please pray for me as I go through this bump in life and Lord’s willing I will try to get back on track next week.

God bless you all,

Hershel Lee Harvell Jr.

Concerning Those not Settled in the Faith

Such as are not settled in the faith can never suffer for it. Skeptics in religion hardly ever prove martyrs. They that are not settled hang in suspense; when they think of the joys of heaven they will espouse the gospel, but when they think of persecution they desert it.

Weekend Pause

We will now take a pause for the weekend. I hope that you have been blessed by this week’s post.

Music as a Gift of God

Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world.

Martin Luther (1483-1546)

True Happiness

The happiness of the creature consists in rejoicing in God, by which also God is magnified and exalted.

Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758)

Concerning a Bad Conscience

The torture of a bad conscience is the hell of a living soul.

John Calvin (1509-1564)

Concerning those who are educated while living in Dormitories

[on Spurgeon’s college not having residential accommodations] The residence of a number of young men in one house encourages and necessarily generates levity; their separation from common social life is a serious injury, and tends to unfit them for the wear and tear of future work among ordinary mortals. When a young man resides in a Christian family, not only is he under the most vigilant oversight, but he never ceases to be one of the people.

C. H. Spurgeon. Letters, p.115

Unsettled Christians are Childish

‘That we be no more children, tossed to and fro.’ Children are fickle sometimes of one mind sometimes of another, nothing pleases them long; so unsettled Christians are childish; the truths they embrace at one time, they reject at another; sometimes they like the Protestant religion, and soon after they have a good mind to turn Papists.

Concerning Music

Nothing on earth is so well-suited to make the sad merry, the merry sad, to give courage to the despairing, to make the proud humble, to lessen envy and hate, as music.

Martin Luther (1483-1546)
