Concerning Praying after Conversion

I would exhort those who have entertained a hope of their being true converts–and who since their supposed conversion have led off the duty of secret prayer, and ordinarily allow themselves in the omission of it–to throw away their hope. If you have left off calling upon God, it is time for you to leave off hoping and flattering yourselves with an imagination that you are the children of God.

Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758)

Concerning Discernment

True discrimination between right and wrong does not then depend on the acuteness of our intelligence, but on the wisdom of the Spirit.

John Calvin on Luke 24:16

Tied up with Life

June 20, 2011 1 comment

I know many of you follow this blog and I appreciate your doing so. I wanted to let everyone know why for the past week I have not had anything but quotes going out. Well as the title indicates, I have been tied up with life.

Certain things in this life require our attention at times more than others. This past week I have been out of water due to having a well drilled deeper next to the one I already had. When the drillers got deeper than my well, my well went dry. So my main focus in life at the moment has been getting the new well finished so that I may have one of the basic necessities of life.

I do hope you have enjoyed the quotes that have gone out during this time. Please pray for me as I go through this bump in life and Lord’s willing I will try to get back on track next week.

God bless you all,

Hershel Lee Harvell Jr.

Concerning Those not Settled in the Faith

Such as are not settled in the faith can never suffer for it. Skeptics in religion hardly ever prove martyrs. They that are not settled hang in suspense; when they think of the joys of heaven they will espouse the gospel, but when they think of persecution they desert it.

Weekend Pause

We will now take a pause for the weekend. I hope that you have been blessed by this week’s post.

Music as a Gift of God

Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world.
