Chapter XXV : Of Marriage—Point 1

1. Marriage is to be between one Man and one Woman; (a) neither is it lawful for any man to have more then one Wife, nor for any Woman to have more then one Husband at the same time.

a Gen. 2.24. Mal. 2 15. Mat. 19.5,6.

I wish those in America who are pushing for gay marriage would read the first part of my confession on marriage and then read the scripture reference to it.

Gen 2:24 would be a good argument for justifying heterosexual marriage, but it is not set up in context as an objection to homosexual marriage.
The verse you picked from Malachi chapter 2 is against an interracial marriage- are you a racist, or are you just not reading the whole chapter?
Matt 19:5,6 is Jesus quoting Gen 2:24 to the Pharisees, who were looking for an excuse for divorce. This section is what led to a stricter view against divorce in the Church (Moses allowed for divorce, but Jesus says here that the only valid reason for divorce is to be fornication – sex outside of marriage). If your intention was to reinforce a respect for the institution of marriage then I support you. I am waiting for marriage, and I believe divorce is wrong too.

I have granted your wish. 😉

Thank you very much for your comment.

As for the scripture used to back up marriage between a man and a woman: I did not choose this scripture because I liked it more than others. If you would notice I quoted from the 1677/89 London Baptist Confession. Had you looked to the right you would also have seen that I have a link to this confession. Upon hitting that link you will get a copy of this confession in Pdf format.

Once you open it, then all you have got to do is turn to the chapter of which I blogged. There you will find that the scripture used was used by the framers of this confession in 1677.

This scripture and those cited sum up very nicely why it is wrong for two men to be together or two women.

As you closed I noticed you stated that you have granted my wish.

I suppose you pasted what I said over onto a gay board somewhere and therefore your intentions were not to correct me, but instead were to speak against God’s word because your own conscience condemns you.
